Strategy process

The following outlines the initial measures from the eight fields of action that are intended to contribute to achieving the four central goals of the Institute Strategy 2030 – problem-oriented research, practice-relevant teaching, responsible promotion of early career researchers and a culture of appreciation – and which are subordinate to the pursuit of the vision and mission.

Field of action 1

Specifying problem-oriented sport and physical activity research!

The concretisation of problem-oriented sport and exercise research (POS) is highly relevant for clearly communicating the institute’s "POS philosophy" both internally and externally. This process is planned in four stages: The definition and operationalisation of POS will be set out in a position paper, which will serve as the central output. To support implementation and long-term adoption, the position paper will be accompanied by nine additional measures targeting three key groups: the institute's researchers, the external research partners, and the institute's lecturers and students.

Field of action 2

Advancing the theory-practice integration in teaching!

The BSc Sport Science program consistently links theory and practice. To improve this approach, the success of this close integration is continuously evaluated. For example, following an evaluation of the "Perspectives on Sport Science" course, adjustments have already been made for the current academic year. The new "Verknüpfungs-"courses in the second part of the programme are also being evaluated and optimized. Additionally, efficient platforms for exchange between lecturers in the sport science and practical-methodical courses are to be established.

Field of action 3

Implementing responsible promotion of early career researchers!

In the field of action "Implementing responsible promotion of academic careers", key measures have been defined. These include agreements on teaching activities with accompanying mentoring and further training, strengthening the visibility of postdocs, structured career development opportunities and systematic support for career decisions after completion of a doctorate. In addition, it is shown how information flows can be optimized, experiences abroad can be reported on, and networking opportunities can be created.

Field of action 4

Farbige Hände schliessen sich zu einem Kreis zusammen.

Living shared values!

The core values of our institute are mutual respect, quality in research and teaching, cooperation and team spirit, openness and innovation. To promote a culture of participation, transparency and appreciation without unnecessary hierarchies, measures such as a handout with the institute’s values, increased communication in English and an institute-wide annual calendar are planned. The aim is to ensure that all contributions made by employees are appropriately recognised and to create a positive feedback culture, so that the institute can be experienced as a place of meaning, innovation and fulfilment.

Field of action 5

Using resources efficiently and distributing tasks fairly!

In this field of action, differentiated models for the distribution of tasks at the institute were developed to regulate responsibilities, deploy resources in a targeted manner and ensure fair distribution. The proposals are based on functions and career stages: doctoral students and postdocs work in a research-oriented manner, three role profiles have been defined for lecturers, and a balance between research, teaching and self-administration has been sought for professors. Measures such as the annual review of priorities, the evaluation of cross-cutting tasks and the analysis of administrative interfaces are being implemented.

Field of action 6

Ein Kreislauf, der von einem Zahnrad zu einem Prozessbeschrieb und dann wieder zurück führt.

Optimizing structures and processes!

In the field of action "Optimizing structures and processes," specific measures were developed as part of the institute’s 2030 strategy. The main foci include revising the server structure, standardized templates for teaching and examination processes, and clear substitution regulations. AI-supported tools will also be implemented in the long term, particularly for administrative processes. An analogue suggestion box enables all institute members to contribute ideas, actively and participatively enhancing process quality.

Field of action 7

Ensuring strategy-aligned recruitment and onboarding processes!

Field of action 7 deals with onboarding, i.e. the question of how to fill vacancies and train new employees in a way that is as consistent as possible with the new institute strategy. Plans include a good practice paper for appointments, checklists for new hires, and a standardised introduction to POS and the institute’s teaching philosophy.

Field of action 8

Ein Netzwerk unter Leuten, die alle in unterschiedlicher Form kommunizieren.

Improving external networking and public image!

Across all other fields of action, the aim is to optimize external visibility. This involves further developing networking in the field of sport and exercise in the form of research partnerships and professional collaborations. Furthermore, measures are planned to increase the visibility of achievements and success in research, teaching, further training, career development and services at regional, national and international level, e.g. by further developing the Career Day as the networking platform and optimizing the website and social media.
