We have been and are living our strategy

We began the academic year in the midst of our strategic participatory strategy process, energized by the motivation of our former director. Since then, it has truly been a joint endeavor, shaped by the contributions of all departments and staff groups. I extend my sincere thanks to all of them for their commitment as we continue our collective journey northbound.

This path, while at times challenging, has been both productive and rewarding, as reflected in numerous quantitative indicators: student enrollment and graduation numbers, the proportion of female students, third-party funding obtained, and publications. Equally noteworthy are the qualitative milestones: Habilitations and PhDs, research and teaching awards, the Bernese Talks with national and international speakers, the integration of AI into teaching, the launch of the next generation PhD Summer School in Weggis with its satellite workshops, and our role in hosting national and international events.

At the same time, our commitment to the strategic process remained strong—with the unveiling of our Institute Strategy 2030, the opening of the “Room of Wishes,” and the joy of celebrating together at the ISPW Holiday Raclette.

These highlights show that we are advancing problem-oriented research, practice-relevant teaching, responsible promotion of early career researchers, and a culture of appreciation—the goals of our Institute Strategy 2030.I look forward with gratitude and motivation to continuing this journey with the institute’s staff – for the successful development of the institute.
